What they do

ARX Robotics develops unmanned ground vehicles and the software to run them. Its Gereon RCS series are modular tracked platforms that can carry payloads of up to 500 kg, according to Mönch's report on the company's Series A. Its second product line is ARX Mithra OS, an AI-driven operating system intended to add autonomy and networking to existing military vehicles as well as its own robots.

Why it matters

Ground robots are being used at scale for logistics, casualty evacuation and reconnaissance, and European armed forces want domestic suppliers. ARX states that its systems are deployed across several European armed forces and that they are the most widely deployed Western-built unmanned ground vehicles in Ukraine; that is the company's own description. The more verifiable signal is industrial: in July 2026 the engine maker DEUTZ, founded in Cologne in 1864, started ramping up series production of Gereon at its plant in Ulm, with first deliveries to Ukraine planned from late summer 2026. The partnership, first signed in October 2025, pairs ARX's vehicles with DEUTZ battery-electric and later hybrid drives, and gives the start-up access to a global production and service network.

Products to know

  • Gereon RCS: modular unmanned ground vehicle family.
  • Mithra OS: autonomy and integration software for new and legacy vehicles.

The German angle

ARX was founded in Munich in 2022 by Marc Wietfeld, Maximilian Wied and Stefan Roebel, all former Bundeswehr officers. Its Series A of 31 million euros was led by HV Capital with Omnes Capital, alongside existing investors the NATO Innovation Fund and Project A. The DEUTZ deal illustrates a pattern now visible across German defence technology: start-ups supply software and design speed, while established industrial companies supply factories and service networks.
