What they do
The Würth Group develops, produces and distributes fastening and assembly materials: screws, anchors, tools, chemical products, workwear and workshop supplies. Its customers are craftsmen, workshops, construction firms and industrial manufacturers, served through a field sales force, branch shops and online channels.
The group is organised in two parts. The Würth Line carries the brand's own range for trade customers, while the Allied Companies cover related businesses such as electrical wholesale and electronic components. The company states that it operates in 80 countries through more than 400 companies.
Why it matters
Würth shows how a distribution business can become an industrial power. Adolf Würth founded a wholesale company for screws and nuts in Künzelsau in July 1945. When he died young, his son Reinhold took over at 19 and turned a small regional trader into an international group by putting sales representatives directly in front of customers.
For tradespeople, availability matters as much as price: a missing part stops a job. Würth's model of stocking vans and workshops, managing supplies for customers and adding services around a commodity product has been widely studied and copied.
Products to know
- Fastening and assembly materials: screws, anchors, bolts and fixings for construction and workshops.
- Würth Line: the core trade range, marketed under the slogan "Ready for work".
- Allied Companies: affiliated businesses in electrical supplies, components and other trade segments.
The German angle
Künzelsau, in the Hohenlohe region of northern Baden-Württemberg, is a rural area that has produced a striking number of internationally active firms. Würth's head office and cultural venues, including the Carmen Würth Forum, shape the town.
The family remains firmly in control. In 2025 the next generation took further board roles, with Benjamin Würth becoming chairman of the supervisory board and Sebastian Würth chairman of the advisory board. The group is also known for its art collection, begun in 1962 and now shown in museums it runs.
